Born in 1974 in São Paulo Brazil, Gui Boratto, architect, musician, composer and producer initiated his career in the advertising sector in 1993. From 1994 until 2004 he performed various works for countless record labels both national and international.
From 2005 he began to dedicate himself to his own productions and compositions, displaying to the public an authorial and more personalized side to his abilities. With countless licenses with respected European labels, such as Kompakt, K2, Audiomatique, Harthouse, Plastic City, among others, Gui Boratto has managed to appear in the chart and playlists of world’s most famous producers and DJs.
Gui Boratto has produced some original music and some remixes that I have found creeping into my playlists. Gui has an extensive collection of original productions that have been featured on many compilations such as, Golden Axe (featured on Cocoon Compilation H), Chromaphobia (featured on Afterhours Ibiza) and Molestado (Featured on City of God Remixed) His remix credits include, but are not limited to; Pimio by Zentex, Black River by Bomb the Base, and Tierra Del Fuego by SCSI 9. These tracks, such as the remix of Pimio and the original track Golden Axe, have defined this artist as far as I am concerned. His music is bright and full of energy. He makes it very hard not to get into some kind of groove.
Take My Breath Away
I have had the chance to review Gui’s new full length album “Take My Breath Away” scheduled for release March 5th 2009.
The music is what I have come to know about this producer. The album, as a whole, produces a very chill vibe. The music is danceable but also lends itself to being played in a lounge or early in the evening as part of a buildup or warm up to more energetic tracks.
“Atomic Soda” is the first single to be released from the album and while a very good track, its B-side “Ballroom” is by my definition a great track. The rest of the album ranges from the very groovy “Colors” to the chill out vibe of “Les Enfants”. Speaking of “Les Enfants” I could very easily see Beth Gibbons (of Portishead fame) singing some very smooth lyrics over this track.
All in all, I am pleased with the overall production value of this album and look forward to the inevitable remixes that it will spawn. I suggest you pick this album up on March 5th at any of the fine Electronic music outlets.
I have also included a beatport player with some of Gui’s sorted works which includes the new singles “Atomic Soda” and “Ballroom”. Please enjoy.
